Fuzzy Logic

A family of logics that represents gradual concepts through degrees of membership or truth instead of requiring only true or false. It is useful for rules such as “high temperature” or “moderate risk,” whose boundaries are not naturally sharp.

Fuzzy does not mean random and is not equivalent to probability. Probability describes uncertainty about an event; a fuzzy degree describes the extent to which a value satisfies a defined concept. Choosing membership functions and rules remains a modeling decision that should be validated against real cases.
